USC defeats Cal Poly SLO

UUSC has been off to a strong start, keeping their record 9-2 for the season. Cal Poly SLO has been making noise as well, beating teams like Fresno and coming very close to winning against UNLV and UCLA. They were unsuccessful at getting past the trojans, as they took a solid lead and won the game. Check out the photo gallery below

Village Christian wins CIF Semi-finals

VVillage Christian has moved up this year to Division 1AA and had the opportunity to host the semi-final game on their campus. The match was against Tustin High School – which included a packed gym full to capacity. It was an exciting game, but in the end, Village took the win and will be going to the CIF Finals on Saturday in Anaheim. Check out the photo gallery below!

USC takes win over CSULA Exhibition Game

TThe Galen Center hosted the first basketball game of the season – an exhibition between USC and Cal State Los Angeles. Despite being in two different divisions and conferences, the game had some nice highlights – from crossovers to blocked shots. The season looks like it will be an exciting one for the Trojans. They have a lot of young guys with amazing talent. Freshman Jordan McLaughlin started his college career with 18 points, while Sophomore Nikola Jovanovic had 16 points. Cal State LA had recent transfer LaBradford Franklin – who just came from playing at San Diego State. It was great seeing him in action on the court, really leading his team.

USC alumni JT Terrell was in attendance to check out the game as well. Make sure to make your way to the Galen Center next weekend to see them take on Portland State!

Thru The Lens: Episode 4 – Day in the Life of Nick Young

THUMB_072214_

TThis was the first episode I ever filmed for my web series, Thru the Lens. Nick Young had just returned home from his season in Philadelphia and was getting ready for the summer of free agency. He went on to be signed by the LA Lakers and has become one of the most lovable players in LA. In this episode, we follow not just Nick, but his assistant Adrian (aka Big Meat). This duo had me laughing non stop throughout the entire day. This webseries is made to give a more intimate look into the lives of some of your favorite athletes and entertainers. Instead of looking at the life of someone, I invite you to spend a day alongside them. This episode has everything from a sneak peak of Nick’s shoe collection, what he eats for breakfast, taking a trip to visit his parents, walking through USC and a hilarious bet at the end to figure out if the In N Out in Hollywood is closer to LaBrea or Highland. Check out the episode below and let me know your thoughts! More episodes coming soon!

Ball is Life hosts All American Highschool game

050314_BallislifeAllAmerican-3910

With the 2013-2014 basketball season coming to an end, there was one final showcase game held this past weekend in Long Beach, CA. Ball is Life held their 4th annual showcase game for Highschool Talent. Most people know of the Under Armour Elite 24, Adidas McDonalds All American and the Jordan Brand Classic. Although held throughout different dates during the season, those 3 showcase games have almost identical rosters. Ball is Life tries to go beyond that roster – to showcase the top talent that is sometimes overlooked and underrated. Although many of the players in this game have also played in the other major high school showcase games, there were some additional faces that were seen for the first time.

Unfortunately, Cliff Alexander, Jordan McLaughlin and Kelly Oubre were not able to play for various reason. Other than that, the players who did play certainly put on a great game. The halftime performance was by up-and-coming rapper, Casey Veggies. Overall the event was well put together and I look forward to seeing how it grows in years to come! Nike Extravaganza brings out top High School talent

This years Nike Extravaganza was hosted at Mater Dei in Orange County. The tournament brought out the top high school talent around the country, including local talent such as Stanley Johnson (Mater Dei), Jordan McLaughlin (Etiwanda), Daniel Hamilton (Bosco), Tyler Dorsey (Bosco) and the number 1 ranked player in the country, Jahlil Okafor (Whitney Young).

I attended the second day of the 2 day tournament to watch Etiwanda vs St John Bosco.USC commit Jordan McLaughlin was one of the most exciting players to watch the entire tournament.

Jordan had 30 of his 32 points after halftime. He also scored a shot with less than 6 seconds left to take the team into Overtime, in which Etiwanda won. Make sure to check out the episode of Thru The Lens that I filmed for Jordan McLaughlin.

The last game of the night was Whitney Young (Chicago, IL) vs Mater Dei. Seeing two of the top players in the country battle it out was highly anticipated. Mater Dei took control of that game and won. It was a fun tournament and I got to see a lot of basketball talent and some cool shoes!
