Andre Drummond celebrates UFC fighter’s birthday in Hollywood

FFriday night was a busy night for Hollywood – particularly at club Playhouse. NBA Star John Wall celebrated his birthday, as well as a live performance from Lil Wayne. The club brought in basketball stars and celebrities from all over the country.

This past week, the Detroit Pistons were in Las Vegas doing team bonding. One of their activities was training with UFC fighters (check out some of the Instagram videos below)

One of the UFC fighters, Kevin Lee (who is also from Detroit) just turned 23 and Andre Drummond brought him out to Hollywood to celebrate on Friday night. It was a lot of fun and there were so many people! Check out some of the pictures below!

Drew League Week 08 – Sunday: NBA stars ball out, including Paul George’s 360 windmill dunk!

SSunday’s action at the Drew League continued with even more surprises and action. It started out with No Shnacks taking a much needed win over The Game’s second team, Robinhood Project. In the past years, No Shnacks has had a variety of NBA players, including Darren Collison and Jamaal Franklin. No league players showed up for this game. Jordan Richard for No Shnacks had 6 really big blocks in the game. Keep an eye out for this team to go far this season. The biggest surprise for the crowd was the appearance of NBA All Star Paul George. Paul is no stranger to the Drew League – he was a regular participant two years ago. Paul joined Nick Young’s team, M.H.P. The two of them working together was an amazing combo and a blow out of the other team to say the least! The final score was 91-67. On a fast break, Paul George took the opportunity to do a 360 windmill slam dunk that brought the entire building to their feet applauding. It will be interesting to see how this team does against other teams coming up.

The excitement wasn’t over – The Game’s main team, La Familia, went up against Javale McGee’s #Juglife. Javale wasn’t able to play (nor did he show up) but he had his Denver Nuggets teammate Quincy Miller come join their team. La Familia is on a 4 game losing streak and they needed to pull out the big guns this time – The Game brought out NBA star Metta World Peace aka Ron Artest. Ron’s son also came along to play for the team. This was Quincy Miller’s first appearance in the Drew League and he definitely left that gym with every single person knowing his name. He was hitting acrobatic shots, blocking dunks and putting on a show. Ron Artest didn’t back down and held the lead for La Familia. The game ended in a close score but La Familia took the victory 82-74.

This was a great weekend to not only see NBA stars but for basketball in general. The rest of this summer will only continue to get better! Check out the photo galleries below:

Drew League Week 08 – Saturday: Brandon Jennings scores 57 points!

TThe week has finally come – NBA players are officially in free agency and are allowed to played in the summer leagues – The anticipation on Saturday to see who would show up was in full effect! NBA legend and Drew League regular, Baron Davis, started off the morning playing with Cheaters. NWA took on Cheaters 2 for an exciting match – including the NWA duo of Jonathan Gibson and Charles Garcia going against Cheaters 2 with big men Ryan Watkins and Kenny Lawson Jr. The came the biggest game of the day – The Clozers vs Sole Clinics. Austin Daye and Brandon Jennings teamed up with Marcus Williams for Clozers, while Derrick Williams and Stanley Johnson teamed up for Sole Clinics. It was a great matchup between the two teams. Brandon Jennings started hitting a lot of really crazy jumpers and it just continued…he was unstoppable. By the end of the game, Brandon finished with nearly 60 points! Also seeing Stanley Johnson go up against NBA guys is truly amazing – he is NBA ready right now! The Clozers took the win 107 – 84. Looking forward to seeing how the rest of the summer goes now with the mixture of NBA talent among the teams! Check out the photo gallery below

Ball is Life hosts All American Highschool game

050314_BallislifeAllAmerican-3910

With the 2013-2014 basketball season coming to an end, there was one final showcase game held this past weekend in Long Beach, CA. Ball is Life held their 4th annual showcase game for Highschool Talent. Most people know of the Under Armour Elite 24, Adidas McDonalds All American and the Jordan Brand Classic. Although held throughout different dates during the season, those 3 showcase games have almost identical rosters. Ball is Life tries to go beyond that roster – to showcase the top talent that is sometimes overlooked and underrated. Although many of the players in this game have also played in the other major high school showcase games, there were some additional faces that were seen for the first time.

Unfortunately, Cliff Alexander, Jordan McLaughlin and Kelly Oubre were not able to play for various reason. Other than that, the players who did play certainly put on a great game. The halftime performance was by up-and-coming rapper, Casey Veggies. Overall the event was well put together and I look forward to seeing how it grows in years to come!
