Chris Paul launches CP3 IX at the Kings of So Cal Tournament

SSanta Monica Pier was the breathtaking location for the Kings of So Cal tournament this year! Jordan Brand built an entire court in the middle of the Pier – something that has never been done before. This was not only a showcase for the top talent in southern California, but also a launch for the newest Jordan Brand sneaker – the Chris Paul IX’s. There were 4 teams total – each team rocked a different color way of the sneaker. There were also different stations set up around the pier where people could try on the sneaker and do different activities.

The tournament kicked off with Los Angeles vs The Valley. The Valley took control early on in the game and took the win. The next game was Orange County vs Inland Empire. IE are the defending champions from last year’s tournament. They also took a major lead in this game and took the win. Before the championship game began, there was a dunk contest with some impressive players. Chris Paul stopped by with his son Chris to interact with the players and check out all of the Jordan Brand stations set up. The championship game was a great match up with two very good teams. Unfortunately, the marine layer came in strong and the floor started to get slippery, causing the game to end before it was over.

Overall it was an amazing location with really great high school talent! Looking forward to seeing the other exciting events that Jordan Brand will put together! Check out the photo gallery below

JaVale McGee hosts 2nd Annual JugLife Celebrity Game

JJaVale McGee has been busy in the offseason with signing to a new team but he still finds time to raise money and awareness for the less fortunate. JaVale started a movement called #JugLife to bring awareness to drink more water and live a healthier lifestyle. Last year, he threw his first annual celebrity softball game, which raised money towards building water wells in Uganda. This year he hosted his 2nd game at UCLA and it included stars like Klay Thompson, Nick Young, Matt Barnes, Kenneth Faried, Jordan Clarkson, Chanel Iman, Andre Roberson, Hannah Stocking, Laura Govan, Stevie J and more.

Klay Thompson’s younger brother Trayce is a professional baseball player with the White Sox. Just this past week he scored his first homerun. Klay came out and showed that he’s not the only Thompson with baseball skills – he scored multiple homeruns during the game! It was super hot outside but everyone was in good spirits and it was a lot of fun! Imperial Courts annual game honors Brandon Jennings and Mark Hill

LLos Angeles is a very large city that ranges from all types of people. Some parts of the city are more explored than others. A rare look into the Los Angeles projects is something hardly seen, especially being shown in a positive light. Compton native and NBA star Brandon Jennings wanted to change this a few years ago. He decided one night to show up at the Imperial Courts projects in Watts and surprise all the fans with a visit from an NBA player. He is the first player that came to play in a game in that area – and it was amazing! Brandon, along with Imperial Courts native/Pro Basketball player, Mark Hill, put together a game for all the community to enjoy. Everyone loved seeing it – so much so that they decided to make it an annual event. The next year they brought out Nick Young, Dorell Wright, JaVale McGee, Jerome Jordan and more. This year Brandon was not able to make the game due to rehabbing from an in-season injury, but Mark Hill continued the game. Mark, along with Joee Evans, put together another year of the event, including talented pro players, local guys, DJ’s and photographers. The game ended with a game winning shot by Mark Hill, complete with everyone rushing the court to congratulate him! Joee presented awards for Mark and Brandon to commend all that they do to give back to the community in Los Angeles. It’s a great cause and I was honored to be apart of it again! Nick Young plays in local summer league

WWhen you think about summer basketball leagues, names like the Drew League, Chi League, Seattle Pro Am, AEBL and Goodman league come to mind. These are the top leagues in the nation – but there are also hundreds of smaller leagues and tournaments going on year round. I stopped by a small church league in Los Angeles to snap some pictures and Nick Young ended up coming by to play. Always nice to see good competition all over! Check out the photos below
