JJaVale McGee has been busy in the offseason with signing to a new team but he still finds time to raise money and awareness for the less fortunate. JaVale started a movement called #JugLife to bring awareness to drink more water and live a healthier lifestyle. Last year, he threw his first annual celebrity softball game, which raised money towards building water wells in Uganda. This year he hosted his 2nd game at UCLA and it included stars like Klay Thompson, Nick Young, Matt Barnes, Kenneth Faried, Jordan Clarkson, Chanel Iman, Andre Roberson, Hannah Stocking, Laura Govan, Stevie J and more.
Klay Thompson’s younger brother Trayce is a professional baseball player with the White Sox. Just this past week he scored his first homerun. Klay came out and showed that he’s not the only Thompson with baseball skills – he scored multiple homeruns during the game! It was super hot outside but everyone was in good spirits and it was a lot of fun! Check out the gallery below
TThe Team USA Mini-Camp concluded with a Blue vs White scrimmage at the Thomas and Mack center at UNLV. A big concern in the back of everyone’s mind that watched last year was making sure there were no injuries.
The scrimmage included some players who weren’t apart of the two practice days – including Elfrid Payton, Arron Afflalo, and Amir Johnson. The first half was pretty light – the guys were putting on a show, but being careful. The second half turned into some big game highlights – with humungous dunks from Blake Griffin, Andre Drummond, DeMar DeRozan and Victor Oladipo. Blake and Andre had some monster dunks, while DeMar DeRozan did a 360 dunk. Arguably the biggest dunk of the game was Victor Oladipo dunking over Michael Carter-Williams and doing a dance after!
It was a fun game full of energy and smiles. The White team ended up winning 134-128. I had a great time being apart of Team USA for another year! Looking forward to next year! Check out the photos below
WWe posted the sneakers the Team USA players were wearing on Day 01, but day 02 of practice brought out some more faces and more sneakers! LeBron James made his mini-camp debut, of course rocking his signature shoe. Kyrie Irving is still injured and not able to play, but he was rocking a new colorway of his Kyrie 1s. John Wall was also wearing a team USA themed adidas shoe. Dwight Howard had his custom DH12 Adidas sneakers. Klay Thompson had a team USA Li-Ning custom shoe. Check out the pics below!
SSaturday’s Drew League was one of the most exciting days of the summer! It was packed full of all kinds of stars – Andre Drummond, Stanley Johnson, Klay Thompson, James Harden, Nick Young, Jordan Hamilton, Quincy Miller, Eric Moreland, Dorell Wright and more! Check out the photos below
SSaturday Night is one of the most anticipated night of All Star Weekend because it includes so many different kinds of challenges with all kinds of stars! The events took place at Barclays center in Brooklyn. It started off with everyone in the building having a necklace around their chair that not only would light up – it also was remote controlled to sync with the music and any other activities going on! (Similar to what we saw at the Jordan Hangar last month!)
The night started with the Degree Shooting Stars which was won by Team Bosh. Next was a new twist on the Taco Bell Skills Challenge (which I thought was much more exciting to watch!) which was won by Patrick Beverly. The 3-point contest was super exciting and star studded! The top 3 players to move on to the final round were Kyrie Irving, Klay Thompson and Stephen Curry. The battle of the Splash Brothers as well as defending 3point champion Kyrie – it was really up in the air of who would take home the trophy. Stephen Curry had an exciting run and hit 13 shots in a row!! He ended up winning the contest with 27 points in the final round. To finish the night off was the dunk contest. Zack LaVine came out with some really exciting dunks (including his “Space Jam” dunk) to take home the trophy. Check out the highlights of the night on nba.com if you missed it!
FFriday night was the first scrimmage for Team USA. The game started off good, as this was the big return game of Derrick Rose. The energy in the building was great – as everyone in the building cheered for every basket. There were no sides, this was just all Americans coming together to represent USA Basketball. The first half was solid, with lots of exciting plays. To end the first half, Damian Lillard hit nearly a full court buzzer beating shot that got the crowd at an all time high for excitement. The third quarter continued with great action and finally the fourth quarter. Paul George went down with a horrible leg injury – the bone broke right in half upon landing after his attempt to block a layup. It was hard to witness but Paul George is one of the strongest players I’ve met – mentally he will come back and be greater than ever. Our thoughts and prayers go out to a speedy recovery. To see the pictures from the game, click the photo gallery below!
