Matt Alonzo directs “Bigger Than Me” video for The Game

Recently I was on set taking behind the scenes pictures for The Game’s newest single, Bigger Than Me. The video was shot at a historical mansion located in South Los Angeles. The song itself speaks a lot without any visuals but the visuals that Matt added to the song made it even better. You’ll have to wait until the full video is released to see all of the surprises, but it includes everything from a VooDoo witch, wolves and chainsaws. See the sneak preview of the video below, along with my behind the scenes pictures!

Venice Beach League kicks off!

Summer time in Los Angeles is full of basketball everywhere you look. The Drew League, JBL, Say-No Classic, Real Run and more. I’ve been covering some of the JBL and the Drew League so far but I would like to introduce the Venice Beach League pictures now being added! The Venice Beach League, also known as the VBL, takes place at the iconic basketball courts located in the heart of Venice Beach, CA. The games will be every Sunday starting at Noon. The majority of the basketball games in Los Angeles are indoor, but this is true street ball at its finest. Along with the players frequently seen throughout the other LA summer leagues, the VBL has been known to attract some of the coolest guests – from NBA stars to street ball legends. The list includes everyone from Derrick Rose, Kobe Bryant, Blake Griffin, Dwayne Wade, The Bone Collector, Sick Wit It, G Smith, Zack Andrews and more! The pictures are courtesy of Emarie Marie! Lost Footage: Off Season workout – Paul George vs Nick Young

Throughout the summer time, I travel all around filming and taking pictures of some of the greatest basketball talent in the world. Before this website, I didn’t have the proper outlet to display it to everyone. Now, I will be posting exclusively on cassyathena.com my “Lost Footage” – footage that I have shot and never posted. Stay tuned for more exciting behind-the-scenes action.

To start it off, I took some footage of Paul George and Nick Young during an offseason workout. It includes drills, dunks, and a game with Nick vs Paul. Check out the video below!

“Hollywood Divas” spotted at Exclusive Burlesque Show

Last night on the rooftop of 3100 Wilshire Blvd, Elise Neal hosted a Burlesque show along with her cast-mates for the new reality show, Hollywood Divas. The other “Divas” were in attendance as well. The lounge was the perfect setting to showcase talent on a stage for all to see. The show was hosted by the lovely Kym Whitley (She was making us all cry of laughter!). The show included everything from a Burlesque show, Pole Dance routine and lots of singing and dancing. The amazing Echoing Soundz staff was running things as well! Stay tuned for their new show coming soon, but in the mean time check out the photos from the event!

Thru The Lens: Episode 03 – NBA Lockout “The Lost Episode”

As the summer approaches and the NBA season comes to an end, the summer pro-am league basketball circuit begins to take off. The Drew League will begin this weekend, May 17. My first year at the Drew League was in 2011 during the NBA lockout. I was the photographer but I also captured never-before-seen video as well. I put together a video showing my perspective of the NBA lockout, including the two biggest games that year – The Drew League vs The Goodman League: “Capitol Punishment” and “The Big Payback”. Every Monday I will be releasing a new episode of Thru The Lens, exclusively on my website!

Clippers return to Staples Center for first time since Donald Sterling ban

ht_clippers_hp_kb_140429_16x9_992

The morning before the game 5 playoff between the Clippers and the Warriors, NBA commissioner Adam Silver announced that Clipper owner Donald Sterling would be fined 2.5 million dollars for his racist statements, along with a lifetime ban from any NBA related activities. Just hours after this news released, I headed down to staples center to see how the atmosphere was at the game. There were many fans outside protesting against Donald Sterling remaining the owner. Because many of the sponsors had also pulled out from working with the Clippers, there was a very different atmosphere – It was quiet and a bit sad before the game started. Before the players came out, we as fans were urged to stand as one and support these Clippers players who are out here fighting for a championship despite all of the controversy. The Clippers stated, “We Are One”. The fans really got up the energy which fed the players throughout the game. As the players continued to play well, it livened up the entire arena – ultimately resulting in a Win for the Clippers. They will be headed to Golden State to play game 6 of the series. Check out the video below for a recap

Meagan Good directs “The 1st Lady” video for Eric Bellinger

Being on the set for Eric’s new video for “The 1st Lady” was unlike any other music video set I’ve been to. The video was directed by Meagan Good and with her experience of production and acting, she took the video to another level. Everything was very professional and it felt like you were on a movie set. The 14+ hour day on set included everything from different exciting scenes, settings and familiar faces. La’Myia Good, Meagan’s sister, played the “1st lady” in the video. Robert Ri’chard also played a part in the story line, as well as an appearance from Marvin Cortes [America’s Next Top Model 2.0]. It was a great experience being on set with lots of positive energy. Meagan is a great director and you can expect to see a great final product when the video is finished! Stay tuned…

Cassy Athena takes pictures as an official NBA photographer

One of my dreams was to be a photographer in the NBA. I was given this opportunity by Fox Sports. I not only was documenting the experience of being at a LA Clippers home game, but Fox was also going to document my experience of shooting my first game. I had the most amazing time! I got to Staples Center a few hours before tip-off to make myself familiar with the venue and everything going on. Sitting on the floor under the basket was a surreal experience. Getting to look out at and see thousands of people was amazing. After my nerves calmed down, I felt right at place and in my element of shooting a basketball game. With the help of my friend DeAndre Jordan, I was able to capture one of the coolest pictures I’ve taken of him, Blake and Ronny on the bench. After the game I talked with DeAndre and Blake about my first time shooting a game and they were very supportive and took pictures to be apart of it as well! I look forward to being apart of more NBA events, it was great!
