Thru The Lens: Hanging with Larry Sanders

NNBA Star Larry Sanders has recently been the talk of many headlines with his decision to leave the NBA in the middle of his 4 year contract of $44 million. Many people have questioned his decision, which he explained a small piece of why he left in recent interview online.

Within a week of that video being released, I met up with Larry in Beverly Hills, CA, to hang out and take some pictures. After talking with him and hearing more about his story and his personal life, we decide to film some footage to get to know HIM better as a person and not just a basketball player.

This is the first video of many more to come! Larry Sanders is a really awesome person and I’m glad I had the opportunity to get to know him better. Check out the episode and the photo gallery below!

Don Benjamin hosts Celebrity Basketball Game

BBasketball is a year round game. Even with the NBA season ends, the summer brings just as much action. With the summer officially over, there are many basketball lovers that keep the games going. Supermodel Don Benjamin hosted his second annual celebrity basketball game in Los Angeles, CA. The game featured street ball legends Bone Collector and Sik Wit It, Harlem Globe Trotters Tammy Brawner and Chris Staples, actors Malcolm D Kelley, Najee De-Tiege and many more! There was a team of celebrities that went up against a team of high school players. The score was really close and went down to the wire – with seconds left on the clock and the score tied, the High School team brought the ball down and hit a winning 3-point shot at the buzzer to win the game! It was a great atmosphere and a fun time! Paul George hosts 4th Annual Camp in Los Angeles

CCalifornia native, Paul George, hosted his 4th annual camp here in Los Angeles. Each year the camp has grown in size, as well as moving to Herittage Christian school. The camp started off at 9AM with the kids lined up doing warm ups, running drills and learning various basketball skills. When Paul arrived the kids were beyond excited to see him. Paul was more than happy to interact with all of the kids, giving out high-fives and words of encouragement. After lunch, the kids worked on their scrimmaging skills, getting to play one another in mini-games around the court. Paul brought out Oklahoma City Thunder rising star Reggie Jackson as a guest speaker for the camp. Before the camp came to an end, there was a big scrimmage game that included Paul and Reggie playing against some of the kids who had played well throughout the day. Many of the kids were really showing off their basketball skills, making it an exciting matchup of tricky jump shots and crossover. Paul also did two big dunks in the game that got the crowd going wild! To finish the day off, every camper got a chance to take a photo and get an autograph from Paul, which made the day even more special for everyone who came out.

This year Paul also introduced his first camp in Indiana which we were told included roughly 500 local kids who were more than excited to be around the Pacers star. Check out the photo gallery below and stay tuned for an exciting video recap of the camp!

Drew Gooden hosts 3rd Annual Celebrity Golf Tournament

NNBA Veteran Drew Gooden hosted his 3rd annual celebrity golf tournament to raise money for the Drew Gooden Foundation. Their website describes it as: “The Drew Gooden Foundation is dedicated to empowering those in need, by providing resources to improve their mind, body and spirit, while developing their character to spread along to their family, friends and community, by raising awareness and installing good habits to make the right choices towards achieving their goals in life.”

The tournament was held in Alamo, CA on a beautiful country club golf course. It was clear skies and very hot weather, but overall the event was extremely well organized by Melissa LaCorte – Vendors were set up all around offering different products and services, along with individual golf carts for the participants. Each hole had a different “Station” that included anything from ice cold water and friendly smiles, to fun jello snacks and more! Celebrities included Drew Gooden, Bobby Jackson, Trevor Ariza, Larry Hughes, Al Harrington, Chuck Hayes, Drew Gordon and surprise appearance from the legendary E-40!

It was my first time in the Bay Area and I had to say everyone made me feel welcome and I had an amazing time! I’m already looking forward to next year! Thank you Drew and Melissa for having me! Check out the photo gallery below and the video recap will be coming soon!

Venice Beach League kicks off!

Summer time in Los Angeles is full of basketball everywhere you look. The Drew League, JBL, Say-No Classic, Real Run and more. I’ve been covering some of the JBL and the Drew League so far but I would like to introduce the Venice Beach League pictures now being added! The Venice Beach League, also known as the VBL, takes place at the iconic basketball courts located in the heart of Venice Beach, CA. The games will be every Sunday starting at Noon. The majority of the basketball games in Los Angeles are indoor, but this is true street ball at its finest. Along with the players frequently seen throughout the other LA summer leagues, the VBL has been known to attract some of the coolest guests – from NBA stars to street ball legends. The list includes everyone from Derrick Rose, Kobe Bryant, Blake Griffin, Dwayne Wade, The Bone Collector, Sick Wit It, G Smith, Zack Andrews and more! The pictures are courtesy of Emarie Marie! Nike Extravaganza brings out top High School talent

This years Nike Extravaganza was hosted at Mater Dei in Orange County. The tournament brought out the top high school talent around the country, including local talent such as Stanley Johnson (Mater Dei), Jordan McLaughlin (Etiwanda), Daniel Hamilton (Bosco), Tyler Dorsey (Bosco) and the number 1 ranked player in the country, Jahlil Okafor (Whitney Young).

I attended the second day of the 2 day tournament to watch Etiwanda vs St John Bosco.USC commit Jordan McLaughlin was one of the most exciting players to watch the entire tournament.

Jordan had 30 of his 32 points after halftime. He also scored a shot with less than 6 seconds left to take the team into Overtime, in which Etiwanda won. Make sure to check out the episode of Thru The Lens that I filmed for Jordan McLaughlin.

The last game of the night was Whitney Young (Chicago, IL) vs Mater Dei. Seeing two of the top players in the country battle it out was highly anticipated. Mater Dei took control of that game and won. It was a fun tournament and I got to see a lot of basketball talent and some cool shoes!
