Brandon Jennings celebrates birthday weekend in LA

OOne thing you learn from being around NBA player Brandon Jennings is how much he loves spending time with his close friends and family when he’s not playing basketball. He celebrated his 26th birthday and flew back to Los Angeles to bring his closest friends and family out to celebrate. He took everyone to one of the most famous sushi restaurants, Nobu in Malibu. It was a beautiful view of the ocean and the food was amazing! The rest of the weekend was spent with good vibes and good people! Brandon loves the 90’s and he made sure to bring out the Polaroid camera! (I made sure to try it out!) Check out the pics below!

Imperial Courts annual game honors Brandon Jennings and Mark Hill

LLos Angeles is a very large city that ranges from all types of people. Some parts of the city are more explored than others. A rare look into the Los Angeles projects is something hardly seen, especially being shown in a positive light. Compton native and NBA star Brandon Jennings wanted to change this a few years ago. He decided one night to show up at the Imperial Courts projects in Watts and surprise all the fans with a visit from an NBA player. He is the first player that came to play in a game in that area – and it was amazing! Brandon, along with Imperial Courts native/Pro Basketball player, Mark Hill, put together a game for all the community to enjoy. Everyone loved seeing it – so much so that they decided to make it an annual event. The next year they brought out Nick Young, Dorell Wright, JaVale McGee, Jerome Jordan and more. This year Brandon was not able to make the game due to rehabbing from an in-season injury, but Mark Hill continued the game. Mark, along with Joee Evans, put together another year of the event, including talented pro players, local guys, DJ’s and photographers. The game ended with a game winning shot by Mark Hill, complete with everyone rushing the court to congratulate him! Joee presented awards for Mark and Brandon to commend all that they do to give back to the community in Los Angeles. It’s a great cause and I was honored to be apart of it again! Brandon Jennings plays for peace in the Los Angeles projects

WWhen thinking of the city of Los Angeles, one of the last thing that comes to mind are the projects. It doesn’t always come with the best reputation – poverty and crime keep many from going anywhere near it. The most overlooked part of this area of LA are the children that are born and raised in this environment. I’ve volunteered at Imperial Courts projects for years now and theres nothing better than interacting with the kids and showing them love. Three years ago, Brandon Jennings decided to come play for the kids in Imperial Courts projects – the first NBA player to come down there and play. Since that day, he has gone back every year to play a game and interact with everyone that comes out. Brandon, along with Mark Hill, joined together to create two teams to play this game. The game Wednesday night brought out a lot of people to see an amazing game! Brandon Jennings along with Kwame Alexander was a highlight reel in itself. Jerome Jordan and Mark Hill were dominating for the opposing team. Overall the entire game was for a good cause – raising awareness for peace in the projects. Thank you to Joee Evans for having us come out to the game! Check out the photo gallery below

Drew League Playoffs kick off with upsets

TThe Drew League playoffs officially kicked off last weekend. There were upsets left and right – teams that were expected to go through didn’t, while other teams that weren’t on the radar rose to the occasion. Saturday was filled with a lot of excitement.

Coming from the team USA game in Vegas the night before where Paul George had a horrible injury, it was understandable that NBA players might not want to continue playing immediately the next day. James Harden and DeMar DeRozan were on the sidelines checking out the action, as well as Dorell Wright. La Familia was missing DeMar, JR Smith and Ron Artest. It hurt them and they took the loss to the Jaguars. Next up was Nick Young’s team – he did play, but without Paul George or Gilbert Arenas, they too fell to Hank’s Houdini’s All-Stars. The next game was a classic rematch of the two teams responsible for the past 5 years of championships – Citi Team Blazers vs The Clozers (formerly LAUNFD) This was an extremely close game but it came down to the Blazers taking the win. Sunday was the next round of playoffs which knocked out most of the teams. The teams left that will compete for the championship are Cheaters 1 vs Houdini’s All-Stars and Cheaters 2 vs COA. You don’t want to miss the final games! It will be great basketball
