Last night another Air West run took place in the heart of Los Angeles. One of the Los Angeles basketball players who has been making quite a buzz around the world is Kwame Alexander. Kwame played his first professional year of basketball last year overseas and has come back this summer looking to build an even bigger name for himself. This summer at the Drew League alone, his dunks have gone viral across all sports media outlets. He has been putting on a show at the Venice Beach League, securing the “Player of the Week” more than once. Last weekend he participated in the BET Experience Sprite Slam Dunk contest. Last night he got a chance go to head to head against Denver Nuggets star, Kenneth Faried. Both are known for their size and athletic ability (as well as their dreadlocks). I showed up to take pictures a little after the run had already started but as soon as I walked in, everyone was buzzing about Kwame dunking over Kenneth Faried. I didn’t get the pic, but our good friend Porterhouse LA was there last night and captured the action. Hey, at least Kenneth was playing defense and we know he’s caught his fair share of bodies with the dunks! Elliott Williams from the Philadelphia 76ers was also in the building scoring buckets! Overall it was a fun night, be sure to check out the photo gallery below!
The opposing team in LA included a lot of local guys who can be seen balling at the Drew League, Venice Beach League and Air West. The celebrity guest coaches of the team were James Harden (Houston Rockets) and Gilbert Arenas (NBA Allstar). The halftime performance included a show from the group LMFAO. Many stars were seen sitting courtside enjoying the game as well!
Ball Up is currently touring the country right now and will be concluding the summer in Las Vegas! Be sure to check out a game when they come to your town. Check out the photo gallery below!
I attended the second day of the 2 day tournament to watch Etiwanda vs St John Bosco.USC commit Jordan McLaughlin was one of the most exciting players to watch the entire tournament.
Jordan had 30 of his 32 points after halftime. He also scored a shot with less than 6 seconds left to take the team into Overtime, in which Etiwanda won. Make sure to check out the episode of Thru The Lens that I filmed for Jordan McLaughlin.
The last game of the night was Whitney Young (Chicago, IL) vs Mater Dei. Seeing two of the top players in the country battle it out was highly anticipated. Mater Dei took control of that game and won. It was a fun tournament and I got to see a lot of basketball talent and some cool shoes!
